Raymond Dixon

Raymond Dixon graduated from the University of Technology, Jamaica with a diploma in technical teacher education and a bachelor’s of education in industrial technology.   He taught high school and worked in industry for seven years.  He then worked as a skills training instructor at the National Tool and Engineering Institute (NTEI) for six years.  While at NTEI he trained engineering technicians for industry and design, and conducted training programs for industry.  He received a Training of Trainers certificate from India in 2000 and was awarded instructor of the year at NTEI the following year.  He later served as head of department, deputy manager, and technical coordinator for the National Tool and Engineering Institute.  After completing his master’s degree in training and development and technology at Illinois State University, he lectured for three years at the School of Technical and Vocational Education, University of Technology, Jamaica.  While there, he participated in several engineering and technology education conferences and published three papers on engineering and technology education.  Raymond successfully defended his dissertation in October, 2010, at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The title of his dissertation is "Experts and Novices: Difference in their Use of Mental Representation and Metacognition in Engineering Design."
